The design of the Modern Soviet Chess Set is a mosaic of features of Soviet influence, with a king and queen that have opposite color finials, and a bishop that lacks a miter cut consistent with evolved Soviet sets. The knight resembles the shape of Botvinnik-Flohr pieces emerging in the 1930s, and the stem and collar of the pieces follow the outline of the "Voronezh Curve".
The 21.5" deluxe chess board, made in Barcelona by Rachapados Ferrer, features 55mm squares and a square size border, and easily accommodates most 3.75"-4" Kings, making it ideal for competition or home display. This set pairs perfectly with our Latvian chess pieces to complete the look from the show.
