Violet Crown Chess is proud to offer The Modern Soviet Chess Pieces. This is full club-size chess set featuring a 4.3" King height with a 1.6" diameter base. This set comes complete with 34 pieces including extra Queens. The chess pieces are hand-carved by our master artisans from the highest quality wood. These pieces are nicely weighted with polished ebonized finish.
The design of this set is a mosaic of features of Soviet influence. The king and queen feature opposite color finials, where the King dons a spear and queen a ball. The bishop lacks a miter cut consistent with evolved Soviet sets. The knight resembles the shape of Botvinnik-Flohr pieces emerging in the 1930s. The stem and collar of the pieces follow the outline of the "Voronezh Curve".
